Design for additive manufacturing (DfAM)

Optimise. Iterate. Collaborate.

As an AMufacture partner, you can collaborate seamlessly with our in-house design experts through a secure, purpose-built digital platform.

This isn’t an add-on. It’s a core function of our digitally enabled production workflow. By helping to develop and optimise designs in real time, our team has helped clients reduce price, weight and time to production, all while improving part performance.

AMufacture designs have been tested under extreme pressure and climate conditions, meeting and exceeding required standards.

DfAM 3D printing optimisation

Design for additive manufacturing (DfAM) is a 3D printing design approach that exploits the enhanced freedom and capabilities of additive manufacturing technologies. By going beyond traditional design for manufacturability (DFM) and optimising for 3D printing from day one, we help clients remove design limitations and overcome fundamental challenges.

Advanced implicit modelling engine

AMufacture’s advanced implicit modelling engine is the core technology behind our field-driven design approach. Using real-world data, physics and logic as inputs, we can accelerate design and prototyping cycles and optimise for real-world performance. Compared to traditional CAD design for 3D printing, implicit modelling allows for faster, data-driven iteration and superior, error-free handling of complex topologies.

Finite element analysis (FEA) testing

In addition to expert design support, AMufacture offers finite element analysis (FEA) testing. This computerised testing approach simulates stress, fatigue, heat transfer and more, enabling accurate predictions of performance under real-world conditions. For our collaborators, that means earlier identification of potential issues and less reliance on physical prototyping.

3D printing reverse engineering

Our 3D printing reverse engineering service allows for highly accurate digital reproductions of physical components. Once digitised, the design can be inspected, improved and prepared for production at scale. Reverse engineering has many applications, including digital repairs of damaged components, iterations of existing designs and reproductions of discontinued parts.

Additive manufacturing capabilities

Speed. Scale. Performance.

AMufacture is the leading contract manufacturing partner in the additive manufacturing industry. Our best-in-class technologies, materials and digital workflows empower clients with unparalleled design freedom and an easier route to scalable, repeatable production.

And as your ambition grows, so do our capabilities. We are constantly investing in new technological solutions to help our partners become more innovative, more resilient and better equipped for whatever’s next.

  • HP-certified Multi Jet Fusion (MJF) specialists
  • Industry-leading 3D printing fleet, including MJF, DLP, SLS and SLA solutions
  • Engineering-grade materials for performance-ready parts at scale
  • Traditional manufacturing processes, such as CNC and injection moulding

Additive manufacturing post-processing

Refine. Assemble. Finish.

As your end-to-end manufacturing partner, we provide a wide range of 3D printing post-processing solutions. For our clients, these solutions represent the final link in the chain, transforming additive manufacturing from a point solution into a fully integrated, production-ready workflow.

Here are just a few of the assembly and finishing services we offer.

Shot peening

An automated process that involves blasting components with polymer beads to improve their surface finish. This results in an attractive, semi-gloss additive manufacturing surface finish, as well as improved strength and fatigue life.

Vapour smoothing and finishing

This post-3D-printing process uses solvent vapour to melt and seal the outer surface of thermoplastic parts. Vapour smoothing/fusing delivers a finish comparable to injection-moulded parts, but with enhanced cosmetics and colouring. It also enhances biocompatibility.

Dyeing

Our dyeing solutions deliver a consistent coloured finish for enhanced vibrancy, production-readiness and suitability for specific applications. We offer a wide spectrum of ISO-certified and customisable colours, as well as specialist dyes.

Large part and technical assembly

Occasionally, applications call for parts that exceed the build volume constraints of 3D printers. We can help you overcome these constraints using expert assembly methods, including split and join and fill and fair.

Advanced and bespoke finishing

We endeavour to cater to all 3D printing post-processing requirements, including advanced assembly techniques, thread inserts and post-machining of 3D-printed parts. We can also accommodate bespoke solutions as required. Please contact us to discuss.

Integrated digital workflows

Visible. Traceable. Repeatable.

With AMufacture, manufacturing is digitally transformed. Our secure digital ecosystem enables seamless, real-time collaboration, end-to-end production visibility and rapid, on-demand manufacturing at scale.

Just like that, ordering repeat parts becomes instant and intuitive. Producing custom, application-specific components shifts from ‘at lead-time’ to ‘at need’. And supply chains become more resilient, more flexible and more fit for a fast-moving future.
